Lydia Wanjuku Gitaka is an experienced Advocate with over twenty years of professional experience. After graduating with a Bachelor of laws degree from the University of Nairobi in 1986 and obtaining a diploma in Legal Studies from the Kenya School of Law in 1987, she was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and worked with the Government of Kenya as a state counsel for one year handling matters relating to the winding up of the companies and bankruptcy.


Desiring to practice privately , she , in August 1989,took up employment as an advocate in a Law firm that was starting up where she handled matters in Conveyancing including preparation of agreements/ contracts and transfers/ conveyances of property for individuals and property developers, preparation and completion of security documents -mortgages, charges- for various banks ,leases, renewal of leases and other matters that relate to property; drafting and completion legal documentation relating to formation/ incorporation of companies, transfer of businesses and company shares, mergers and amalgamations of companies and all such matters relating to companies as may arise in normal practice. Other duties included handling matters of debt collection for banks, probate and administration of deceasedfs estates, drawing of pleadings/court documents, attendances in court and generally giving legal advice and acting as necessary in effecting clientfs instructions. She handled all litigation work in the firm mainly for corporate clients, particularly debt collection.


It was a busy practice that grew considerably and with time, she found herself handling a very large portfolio of work independently, with competence and confidence.In 1995, seeking even greater exposure and specialization, she joined a larger Law Firm with an established and busy conveyancing and commercial law department and handled mainly Conveyance, commercial matters as above detailed until July 2002, when she set out to practice on her own under the name and style of Lydia Gitaka &Co Advocates.


The firm has grown in clientele and is fairly busy, with competent support staff and in an easily accessible area in Nairobi. It has specialized in commercial law and conveyancing law but also dealing , though on a lesser scale, with all other areas of law in a bid to guide clients in all aspects of Kenyan laws.


The proprietor has an excellent grasp of Kenyan laws and the practice thereof. She also has gained competence, efficience and insights in understanding clientsf needs and meeting them. Her interaction with the various offices involved in the implementation of matters of law and practice in Kenya has proved to be of immense value in achieving results for clients within clientsf expectations.
